![]() When I first wrote JBS all the other background switching apps out there had every possible piece of functionality, but you ended up with a UI that only power users could understand, so I wanted to build something simple. I certainly understand what you’re suggesting and accept that it would be pretty neat, but it could potentially complicate the UI, so I’d need to ensure that the impact was minimal. Right, enough talk! Go to the download page and get yourself upgraded, peruse the full release notes and enjoy! □Īh, sorry, I forgot to reply! I try to keep the UI as simple as possible and will only add something if it’s either of such high value that it would be crazy not to, or it’s highly requested and I can implement it without compromising that simple UI. And while we’re talking about Flickr, you can now authenticate JBS to Flickr via a Facebook or Google login. ![]() There are a bunch of bug fixes including getting SmugMug working again (JBS was using an old version of their API that was deprecated when they made an awesome update to their site) and Pixabay (my bad!) along with performance improvements to Flickr integration (it’ll be a lot less heavy on the number of calls it makes to the Flickr API which should speed things up somewhat). Now you can simply use the direct URL to a webcam (so long as it returns an image) in the ‘RSS Feeds’ dialog and get your wish! ![]() Yay!Īnother oft requested feature is to support webcams for desktop backgrounds. So in addition to being available in English (duh), French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Japanese, I’m delighted that as of version 4.8, JBS also supports Russian, Finnish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Some of those people are particularly awesome and have offered to translate JBS into their language. Next up, since JBS is used all over the world by a lot of people whose native language is not English. Yes I know, Lhasa Apsos are very cute dogs – that’s why I’m so obsessed with mine! More of a kitten guy or girl? We’ve got you covered! It means you can create awesome desktop backgrounds like this: So I came up with a photo collage and, since I have no imagination with names (example: John’s Background Switcher) I called it a “photo collage”. Speaking of photo montages, I thought it was about time I added a new option to the mix. Now it is.ĬHANGED: Since Pinboard has acquired delicious and it’s being killed off so has been removed from JBS.ĬHANGED: Phanfare has migrated to SmugMug so has been removed from JBS completely. The past few months of my life! Yes, quite a few of the dog…Īll you need to do is authorise JBS to view your images on Dropbox, you pick a folder or folders to choose from and leave JBS to it! ![]() Unfortunately this means you’ll need to re-authenticate with Dropbox again as I’ve had to request a new API key from Dropbox to support the change.ġ2462: Explain the minimum size limitation in the help fileĬHANGED: The help file wasn’t entirely clear on how the ‘only show pictures larger than x pixels’ feature worked. ![]() If you depended upon that functionality then you’ll have to use another app I’m afraid!ġ2564: Update Dropbox integration to use the v2 APIĬHANGED: Dropbox has a new version of their API which JBS now supports. Since space is tight you’ll need to scroll down to change the sizes.ġ2419: Remove auto downloading of full sized picturesĬHANGED: While JBS has supported downloading and saving full-sized photos for many years, it turns out this behaviour is prohibited by some photo service API JBS uses so I’ve removed it. Version 4.15 of John’s Background Switcher for Windows is all about removing things, updating Dropbox integration to use their new API (otherwise Dropbox would stop working) and letting you change the collage tile size.ġ2735: Add the option to change the collage tile sizeįEATURE: You can now change the size of the photo collage tiles – just take a look at the ‘Montages’ section of ‘More Settings’. ![]()
